Introduction To Pilot Testing And Its Need
Posted By : Saloni Puri | 30-Apr-2018
Pilot Testing ensures major functionality of the application is working properly before deploying it to Production. It takes place exactly between UAT and Production. The system is expected to be performed under real-time operating conditions.
In Pilot testing, a selected group of end users will check the functionality of the entire system.Feedback will be provided and changes will be suggested if required. It helps in early bug detection, which reduces the cost of the project.
Some examples may include:
1) Android Beta Program was launched by Google for Nexus users to test its Android Operating System.
2) Windows Insider Program was done as Pilot significant changes involved in the process. So, it would not be accessible between 2 PM to 4 PM today.st by Microsoft for Windows 10.
Why is Pilot Testing needed?
1) It will confirm that the product is ready for full-scale implementation.
2) It provides bug detection before deployment
3) It provides a better vision for decision making in allotment of time and resources
4) It helps to measure the overall success of Product development process.
Pilot Testing Strategy :
The pilot testing must be planned according to the size and scope of the project.
It must be done in a dedicated area where users can perform multiple transactions. Following points must be taken care:
1) The Participants must be provided with proper knowledge and training.
2) A proper plan for deploying servers and preparing systems
3) Proper Documentation of installation process.
4) Checking of all the testing scenarios that must be executed.
5) The test must not be initiated until all the end users are agreed on a successful result.
6) The users must know the purpose and the duration of Pilot testing.
Steps for Pilot Testing:
Pilot Testing involves following steps:
Step 1: Create a Pilot Plan.
Step 2: Prepare the Pilot Test.
Step 3: Deploy and test the Pilot Test
Step 4: Evaluate Pilot Test
Step 5: Prepare for Production Deployment
