Safari Crashing Issue In iOS

If you are reading this blog, it’s probably because you too are experiencing frequent crashes on the Safari browser of your iPhone. It can be at times, pretty annoying when you open a website in Safari and then on the spur of a moment, it suddenly disappears and then you have to launch the browser and do it all over again. It might be because you are using an older iOS version or some other software glitch might be causing this disruption. But whatever be the case, you would want to get it fixed right away. Well, to be very honest with you, the Safari crashing problem is not a serious one and it can be fixed. Plus, you can fix it all by yourself with little efforts. In this blog, I’ll tell you three easy ways to fix the Safari Crashing issues on your iPhone. So let’s get started!

Clear Browser History And Website Data

Clear Browser History

You must keep clearing the browser history as well as the website data on regular basis and you must do it at least once a month. If you’re not doing that, then in a long run, chances are your Safari browser will start behaving ambiguously.

Apart from the browser history, you must also clear the cookies and all the website data as well. Doing that, you will lose your saved login credentials, the bookmarked websites and all the browser settings. So it will cause a little bit of inconvenience for sure but in the end, it’s totally worth it.

To perform this action, follow these simple steps.

  • Launch the Settings app.

  • Scroll down and find Safari option. Tap on that.

  • Scroll down to the bottom and just below the Privacy & Security section, you’ll find the text, “Clear History and Website Data” highlighted in the blue color.

  • When you tap on that, a pop-up menu will appear with an option to clear History and Data. Tap on that and wait for a few seconds.

That’s it! Doing that will clear all the saved data, settings, cookies, bookmarks and account information from Safari and it will be fresh as a new one. Doing this should fix the crashing issues.

Update To The Latest iOS Version

iOS Update

If your Safari is crashing frequently, it might be because you are using an older and outdated iOS version. When you update to a newer iOS version, it not only adds new features but also fixes several bugs prevalent in the previous iOS version. So in case you’re still using an older iOS version, it’s high time you should update to the latest one. You can either update by connecting your iPhone to the computer or Mac via iTunes app or you can receive an over-the-air update through WiFi or your local internet connection.

Obviously, the second way is the simplest one and is used by most of the people. If you want to update your existing iOS version wirelessly, you can do so by following these few steps.

  • Go to Settings app.

  • Scroll down and go to General.

  • Tap on Software Update and it will show you the available over-the-air update.

  • Tap on Install Update.

After doing that, your system will reboot and a black screen will appear with a centred Apple logo. The download will begin in a few seconds. The download will take several minutes depending on your WiFi speed and the size of the update. After downloading, installation will begin which will take a few more minutes. Finally when your phone is ready, it will restart normally and your iOS will be updated.

Note: Before you start downloading the update, make sure that your iPhone is left with at least 50% battery. If not, you must connect it to a power source before starting to update.

Turn Off iCloud Safari Syncing

Turn off iCloud Sync

If none of the above two steps worked for you, you should try turning off the iCloud sync for Safari and see if that makes any difference. Sometimes the problem may be with the iCloud and not with Safari. By default, all your browser settings and bookmarks are automatically backed up on iCloud. While this can be quite useful in many cases, it might be the reason why your browser is crashing again and again.

Go to Settings > iCloud and turn off the Safari syncing.

Turn Off the JavaScript Setting

Turn off JavaScript

Sometimes when Safari is crashing again and again, the problem isn’t always with the browser. But instead, it might be because of the website you’re trying to reach. It might be the case that there’s a JavaScript issue with the website and that’s why it’s behaving badly. You can make sure of it, by visiting some other website and if it doesn’t crashes, the problem is definitely with the website that you were browsing previously. With that be the case, turning JavaScript off in Safari Settings can fix the issue. To do that, go to Settings > Safari > Advanced. Find the JavaScript tab and turn it off.

Once you have visited the website and done with your task, you can turn it back on so that you can visit other websites seamlessly.

Try all these steps and if the problem still persist, you must immediately contact Apple for technical support on resolving this issue.
