HTML5 An Overview and Showcase of Added Elements

Posted By : Kiran Bisht | 19-Nov-2014

In order to learn web designing, it’s very important to learn specific techniques and languages. Doesn’t matter whether you are a pro or a novice in web designing, you must have heard designers or layman mentioning HTML5 here and there. So this article is going to give you an overview of what this core technology programming language is all about.

HTML5 - An intro

HTML5 is latest version of HTML/XHTML. This targets the needs of web developers. HTML5 allows web developers to use and implement various new features, for instance, drag and drop facility, improved support of audio and video as well as latest structure elements.

What’s the reason behind developing HTML5?

HTML language was developed by the WWWC (World Wide Web Consortium) until 2004. Majority of web developers were disillusioned with the suggested enhancements in the language by W3C, developers also felt that they are lagging behind modern day application and web developers. So, a group Web Hypertext Application Technology Working Group ( a community of techies interested in evolving HTML) took over the development of this language and named it HTML5.

Enhanced HTML5 Attributes

  • Web workers - An API is defined by web workers for running scripts in the background independently of any UI script. Code-heavy web pages runs smoother with the help of this element. Developer can open it by the page, and work in the background without tying up the User Interface, and then notify the page when you are done. Your page respond to other events normally while you are working on this.

  • Video element - It allows you to implant video with the need for third-party plug-ins or codecs, which means inserting a video into a web page has become easier than ever.

  • Canvas element -  It allows for dynamic scriptable rendering of bitmap images. This element will allow the developer to create things such as animations, charts and graphs.

  • Local storage - HTML5 has increased functionality for storing web based details on your device locally, something like cookies. It allows you to store data dependent web apps.

  • Conclusion - HTML5 can be a great way to improve your web developing experience. Although it does not enhance the process of developing apps, but it enhances the fundamental functionality of web page by making it more intuitive and smoother.
