It’s been several days since the seventh major release of Android came to the surface. Android 7.0 Nougat has created an unforeseen hype, partly because the over-the-air update is only available to a few smartphones so far. Yes, only the Nexus phones and a few others can receive the update as of now. It’ll still take some days until the Android 7.0 release goes mainstream but Google is already working on an incremental update of the same which is scheduled for a 2017 launch. The new version, Android 7.1 will be based on the original Android 7.0 release but with new features and new functionalities.

Google team reveals that the beta testings for the new version are about to begin but first off, it is going to release the developer preview of Android 7.1. The sneak peek of the incremental update (Android 7.1) was also shown a recent event hosted by Google for the launch of its new Smartphone series i.e. Pixel. The reason why Google releases the developer preview so early is that it wants the developers to start working on their apps right away so that they can be completed right on time. Google also reveals some of the features and enhancements that are going to be offered by Android 7.1.

What’s New In Android 7.1?

Android Nougat is a full-fledged release with several out of the box features and numerous enhancements, making it stand off the charts. But Google seems to be adamant on making it even better. That’s why it plans to release this incremental version (Android 7.1) shortly after Nougat goes mainstream. As revealed by Google itself, Android 7.1 is going to have several optimizations, updates, bug fixes and new features as well. Nevertheless, it will be offering new APIs to the developers, thereby streamlining the development process. By rendering new APIs to the developers, Google gives them a chance to create more interactive and engaging apps for a better user experience. Android 7.1 offers a series of lucrative features to both the developers and users. Let’s have a look at some of these features.

New Features In Android 7.1

Android 7.1 has got something for everyone whether it’s about developers or the users. Although not much has been revealed about this upcoming version, Google enlights some of the key features it is going to have for the developers and users.

  • New APIs: As already mentioned above, Android 7.1 is going to provide new APIs to the developers to streamline the process and make better apps with the immersive user experience. It will also provide App Shortcut APIs to the developers so that they can use up to 5 shortcuts in a static or dynamic way.
