We all know that there are many defect tracking tools on the internet which is used by the software organizations to improve the quality of the software such as JIRA, Bugzilla, Mantis, Redmine etc. But the most famous defect tracking tools are JIRA and Bugzilla which are widely used in the software organizations nowadays. So, let's get started with brief understanding of them.

Bugzilla is developed by Mozilla Foundation which is launched in 1998 and it is one of the famous bug reporting tool which is free of cost and having simple user interface that a beginner can understand the flow of the Bugzilla in no time.

  1. 3) Easily adapt to the multiple situations

  1. 4) Helps to improve client satisfaction.

  1. 5) Helps to reduce the cost by providing IT support accountability.

  2.

JIRA is developed by Australian Atlassian community which is launched in 2002 and it is the most famous and widely used defect tracking tool which is used for tracking the defect and issue and also used for project management purpose. JIRA is not an open source tool.

Benefits:

  1. 1) It is good for functional testing planning's and also for the commercial support.

  1. 2) Helps to prioritize the tasks and iterate on your team work with ease.

  1. 3) One can keep an eye on the real time and up-to-date status of the next release of a build.

  1. 4) It has flexible workflow so that team can adjust accordingly.

  1. 5) Good usability and accessibility.

Conclusion:

Bugzilla offers flexible but complex features for grouping issues, users and for granting permissions whereas JIRA has a simple model regarding the permissions so it is more traditional and appropriate, however, it is a challenging task to migrate from Bugzilla security groups.

So, from my point of view, JIRA and Bugzilla are very much different although, they have some common features nowadays JIRA is most commonly used in software organizations.
