The bitcoin ecosystem is growing rapidly and a large number of retailers are now accepting BTC payments both in online and offline spaces. The newest addition to the list is a renowned gaming and digital media platform called Steam. Steam is a digital distribution partner of the Valve Corporation which is a top rated video game developer and distributer.

According to the earlier reports, Valve had already explicated its plans of adding bitcoin as a payment option for its gaming platforms. And it finally announced that its digital distribution partner, Steam is now accepting BTC payments via BitPay. The BTC payments will be applicable on some famous video games including Grand Theft Auto, Counter Strike, Fallout and Team Fortress.

About Valve Corporation

Valve is an American video game developing company headquartered in Washington. It was founded in 1996 by two former Microsoft employees, Gabe Newell and Mike Harrington. The company has developed some of the world’s most popular video game series like Half Life, Portal, Team Fortress, Left 4 Dead and Counter Strike.

In the year 2002, Valve came up with a new gaming platform called Steam which now has more than 3500 games in its bag and it owns a gigantic user base with more than 75 million active accounts.

Other Gaming Giants That Accept BTC Payments

As a matter of fact, Steam is not the only gaming platform that ventured into the cryptocurrency realm. There are many other gaming giants like Zynga, SgtSpike, Archive Entertainment, Gamerholic and GameVault  that have been actively accepting the bitcoin payments for quite some time.

Zynga was the first gaming company that started accepting bitcoin payments in 2014. Zynga is famous for its social online gaming community and it incorporates some popular online game series like CityVille, FarmVille, CastleVille, Hidden Chronicles and Hidden Shadows.

Bitcoin Poker Games & Gambling Websites

Bitcoin is not only emerging as a payment option for gaming websites, but it is also being used as a primary currency in many monetary games like poker and gambling. Bitcoin poker is slowly gaining popularity and there are numerous websites over the internet that let you play real time poker and gambling games. Some of these websites are SatoshiDice, GamblingWithBitcoins, BitcoinChaser and FortuneJack. FortuneJack is perhaps, the most popular bitcoin gambling website nowadays.

The best thing about these websites is their easy withdrawal methods. The cash withdrawal used to be a tedious process in earlier poker websites and it was very time consuming as well. But the involvement of bitcoin has made it quite simple and quick. And besides, the bitcoin poker websites also provide anonymity to the users and their transactions.

So all we can say is, the involvement of bitcoin in gaming is also gaining pace. And it will be interesting to see how far it goes.
