Blockchain Based Cloud Computing System For Data Protection

It’s been quite some time since the leading cloud computing giant, Intel started investing in Blockchain to build scalable enterprise applications powered by this distributed ledger technology. On November 1, 2018, the company has come up with a Blockchain based decentralized marketplace for computing power called iExec.

iExec is an end-to-end decentralized marketplace for cloud resources where the developers can create and monetize their decentralized applications (DAPPs) and feature them on the iExec marketplace to increase their visibility. Being the first SGX solution from Intel, the iExec technology will provide scalable solutions to the businesses for achieving top level privacy and security in blockchain based cloud computing.

Intel SGX & The Concept of Enclaves

Intel SGX or Software Guard Extension is an architecture extension, a set of instruction codes from Intel that enables allocation of user-level code in private memory slots built the CPU called enclaves. The extensions architecture was designed by Intel to implement secure remote computation, web browsing and digital rights management (DRM). As you may have seen on Intel’s website, the SGX platform enables data protection through enclaves.

The developers at Intel SGX believe that the concept of Enclave can bring a major paradigm shift in the world of Cloud Computing. Being used in iExec marketplace, these are the most advanced computing tools that provide top-notch security and privacy to the users as they can run applications seamlessly on any computer without the risk of disclosing their data to a third-party.

The concept of enclaves is also introduced in iExec marketplace where it will protect an application by isolating it from a host machine. This means, even the admin of the host machine won’t be able to access the application without the user’s permission, making the application tamper-proof at all times.

On-demand Marketplace

Through its iExec platform, the company aims to create an open market for cloud computing where the computing power is traded like a commodity. Powered by Blockchain, it will form an extensive decentralized marketplace for the developers, providing them secure and scalable on-demand computing power. The transactions are validated as per the Proof-of-Contribution algorithm which is used to facilitate each and every transaction between the buyers and sellers.
