Android P features

It’s been a while since Google announced the future release of the 9th major Android version and all eyes are fixed at the launch date which hasn’t been announced just yet. Although Google hasn’t been generous enough to reveal the actual name of the next Android version, people have started calling it Android P. Since the last Android version was Oreo 8.1, it’s quite obvious that the name of the new Android version will start from the alphabet, ‘P.’ It’s official that Android P will be released in the third quarter of 2018 but the release date hasn’t been finalized yet. Despite that, there are all sorts of rumors on the internet and most of them may also be true.

The good news is that Google has already started rolling out the beta versions of Android P which gave us a nice look at some of its features. Two beta versions have been released so far and the third one might be arriving pretty soon. In this blog, we have listed five cool features of Android P that may revamp the user experience of millions of Android users.

1. Indoor navigation with Wi-Fi RTT

This is perhaps the most anticipated feature of Android P and the users are most excited about this. This cool new feature enables the indoor GPS tracking based on your current location. For example, if you are inside a building or shopping mall, the Indoor Navigation feature will provide turn-by-turn directions to help you navigate indoors. In this way, it helps you find your way across the indoor spaces like buildings, supermarkets, and shopping malls. This has been made possible with the advent of IEEE 802.11mc WiFi protocol, also known as Wi-Fi Round-Trip-Time (RTT).

2. Gesture Navigation

With the new Android P release, Google has made some big changes in the navigation features. For the first time, Android users will experience a whole new UX with gesture navigation with features similar to iPhone X. Also, the three navigation buttons that were previously seen at the bottom have been removed. As a replacement, there is now a single new Home Button. Swiping it up gives you access to your recent apps. Not only that, the apps are listed in an order based on their frequency of use. Besides, you can quickly switch between the apps by swiping the Home Button left and right.

3. Wind Down

Wind Down is another cool feature in Android P which focuses on recuperating the bad habit in many people of using their smartphones late at night. Enabling the Wind Down feature will help you curb this habit by switching on the Night Light and turning on the Do Not Disturb mode at your chosen bedtime. Based on the time you have selected, it will automatically turn the phone screen to grayscale reminding you that it’s time to sleep.

4. Slices

It’s certainly one of the best features that Android P brings to the mainstream Android smartphone users which may revamp their user experience in many ways. The feature allows you to perform some basic in-app activities even when you’re outside the app. Let’s say you search for an ‘UBER’ on Google in your Android P smartphone, an interactive slice now appears on the screen that displays the price and time for a trip which you can directly book without even accessing the app. This further reduces your time and efforts and lets you book your ride almost instantly. In the same way, you can also order food online or book movie tickets. Cool, isn’t it?

5. App Timer

This exclusive feature in Android P lets you set a time limit on the apps that are most frequently used on your smartphone. When the time limit approaches, it starts giving notifications and when the time limit is reached, it force stops the app immediately. It can be an excellent source of time management and can help you overcome your addiction to an app.
