Google Android 9 Pie

The ninth version of Google’s Android has finally been launched with the name “Pie”. The new mobile operating system has a range of features that are aimed at rendering more customized atmosphere for the smartphone users. With the habit of picking a sweet or dessert-based name for the interface, it is initially available only for Google’s own Pixel range. The other device manufacturers are however expected to receive the update by the end of the fall this year.

A Flashback to the features:

Android 9 Pie’s starlight features are same as we revealed back and harnesses some of the over-the-air updates like a new gesture-based navigation system, a “Digital Wellbeing” dashboard, and several other AI-powered enhancements in the UI.

It has also received many tenuous improvements to the overall look of the software platform including an up-to-the-minute status bar that is crafted to work efficiently with the notches. Pie also marks one of the colossal changes in the way Android feels and looks, with a collection of new movement animations and an alluring colorful interface. Google has also revamped the way Android managed the background apps for a secured protection of the users’ privacy.

What’s missing?

While Android 9 Pie has already been rolled out through Google Pixel smartphones, not all the features that the software giant flaunted at its Developer conference in May are completely baked yet. A couple of new and major updates are yet to arrive: Google’s Digital Wellbeing Tools including app timer, usage dashboard, wind down setting and Slices. Instead, these features will be bestowed upon Pixel users as a Beta version right away. Expect them to materialize in the fall for Google Pixel devices and later for the other smartphone brands.

  • Digital Wellbeing- The anti-smartphone addiction tools by Google, collectively termed as ‘Digital Wellbeing’ is presently in a beta testing for only a few selected users. They include App Timer- it allows you to fix time limits and slots for certain applications, Dashboard- it calculates and displays the amount of time you are spending on your phone and selected apps, DND function that silences both audible and visual notifications/alerts, and Wind Down- it turns on DND and morphs the screen into grayscale during bedtime.
  • Slices- It is developed to display information from the apps straight away within the Google search app, in the exact way as snippets are displayed directly in web results within boxes. ?

Furthermore, Google has also claimed that all the devices that were being tested under the beta version of Android P will timely receive the Android 9 Pie update.

And as for the name, we are not really shocked with Google’s preference for “Pie”. It was an obvious possibility and Google fixed on it! What are your opinions about it? Write down in the comment section below!
