A glance at Pilot Testing and Its Need

Pilot Testing is performed just before the release or deployment to the production. Aim for performing this testing is to final test all major functionalities are working fine. After completion of all testings on QA server, pilot testing is performed in real-time conditions where a very small team of users tests application and try to find any possible defect or enhancement which is required to be done.

But it is different from the Beta testing, where beta is performed after the deployment and Pilot testing is tested before deployment.
 
 
Need for Pilot Testing: 
1. By adding another level of testing, client ensures the application is ready for full-scale implementation
2. This gives another chance to the team for identifying any flaws left
3. Pilot testing before the implementation of a new software provides a set of outputs for different inputs, may be useful in many processing and research
4. A pre-final test gives an idea for success in final implementation
 
 
Road-map for Pilot testing: Steps for performing the pilot test plan are as followings: 
Step 1. Creation of test plan
Step 2. Create cases for Pilot test
Step 3. Deploy test into a pilot machine (access is given to very few users )
Step 4. Test the pilot application
Step 5. Evaluate the outputs
 
 
Strategy for Pilot plan: For a successful pilot test, the following points must be considered, and a set of inputs should be tested for all cases
Point 1. The members of pilot test plan should be aware of all business logic
Point 2. Properly documented flow for deploying servers
Point 3. Verifying all scenarios and cases that must be executed
Point 4. Well discussed and agreed on the result for inputs
Point 5. The duration and way of testing must be well defined.
