Useful Tips For Saving Battery Life In iOS 11

The iOS 11 update is finally here and though it has brought dozens of exciting features and UI updates, there are several bugs that need to be taken care of. The most serious one of all, frequent battery drain has become a nightmare for the users. The internet is flooded with posts and tweets complaining about the poor battery handling capabilities of iOS 11. In spite of the two incremental updates (i.e iOS 11.0.1 and iOS 11.0.2), the problem seems unresolved to this date. Another major update iOS 11.1 is around the corner but yet there is no guarantee that it will fix the issue. So it is better to optimize the phone settings to maximize the battery life in iOS 11 until some stable update arrives.

In this blog, you’ll get to know some useful tips for saving a significant amount of battery which aids in a longer battery life. So let’s get started!

Turn Off Location Settings

When your location settings are on, your device is continuously emitting and receiving signals at frequent refresh rates. This consumes a lot of battery life and causes your device’s battery to drain out quickly. So it is better to turn off location settings on your device when not necessary.

To do so, go to Settings > Privacy > Location Services and turn off the Location. Under the same tab, you can also choose for what apps you want to enable location settings and when.

Turn Off Auto-Brightness

Auto-brightness is an intelligent feature that automatically adjusts the brightness of your device depending on the light conditions. But it can cost you a lot of battery life under certain conditions. For instance, with auto-brightness enabled, when you step outside in broad daylight, your phone brightness automatically crank up to 100% which will definitely affect the battery life. To turn off auto-brightness, go to Settings > General > Accessibility > Display Accommodations.

Background App Refresh

This smart feature in iOS 11 allows the apps to refresh their data in the background so they can load faster when you launch them. But clearly, this also causes your battery to drain out quickly. So it is recommended either to entirely disable this feature or disable it for some apps that you don’t use much.

You can control the Background App Refresh settings by going into Settings > General > Background App Refresh.

Turn Off Raise To Wake

If you are using iPhone 6s or later, then your phone supports Raise to wake feature which causes your phone to automatically light up when you lift the phone towards your face. Although this feature may be convenient to some users, it may be a major factor behind the short lasting of your iPhone’s battery. This is because your iPhone’s sensors need to be active all the time for this to work which in turn, causes the battery to drain quickly.

To turn it off, head to Settings > Display & Brightness.

Refrain From The Use of Live Wallpapers

It’s a known fact that using a Live Wallpaper consumes a lot of battery power whether it’s on iOS 11 or 10 or any other operating system. The moving effects flaunted by these photos eat up a lot of GPU power as compared to their still counterparts. So it’s highly recommended that you use a still wallpaper instead of moving ones.

In the end, it is highly recommended that you keep updating your iPhone time to time as the new update arrives. Apple releases a series of incremental updates at regular intervals. Though some minor updates don’t have much to offer, they still add to the overall performance of your device. Some improvements might not be noticeable but more or less, they will be favorable for your device.
