Face ID In iPhone X May Require Passcode When Battery Runs Low

Apple has finally launched its long awaited iPhone X which will be available in stores anytime soon. By this time, we all are already aware of the Face ID unlock feature which has replaced the Touch ID in iPhone X. While people are still excited about this new feature, Apple has released a support document on its website which clarifies that the Facial Recognition System on iPhone X may not work in case the battery charge falls below 10%. Your iPhone X will temporarily disable the Face ID for power reasons. In that case, you will have to enter the passcode instead of unlocking it through Face ID.

According to Apple, the Face ID can effectively work even below 5% but doing that will drain out your remaining battery power pretty quickly. Initially, it was not specified by Apple in the list of situations where passcode may be required in place of the Face ID. This time however, a detailed support document has been released by Apple that enlists the number of situations when passcode will be required to unlock the iPhone X devices.

  • When the access code is being used to unlock the device for more than six days and Face ID has not been used in the last four hours.

  • When a remote lock command has been received by the device.

  • After 5 failed attempts to unlock the device via Face ID.

  • After you initiate the power off / SoS contacts by holding down the volume key and side buttons simultaneously for two seconds.

In the release notes, Apple also reminds the users to make sure there is no obstruction in the path of the True Depth Camera. It should not be covered by any case or screen guard. Apple also recommends you to keep cleaning the True Depth camera time to time and make sure there is no dust clogging on the Camera. All these instructions are pivotal for keep using the Face ID without any complications.
