Cortana Getting Smarter

Cortana, the virtual assistant brought to you by Microsoft seems to be getting smarter by the time. Lately, Microsoft explicated its plans of rendering IoT support for Cortana thereby making it more susceptible for a number of potential hardware applications. To make that happen, Microsoft announced the launch of a new set of tools for the developers working on this project. The central idea behind this whole stratagem is to make Cortana ready and available for all the hardware IoT devices. This step can be perceived as another master stroke played by Microsoft to make an impressive comeback, taking all its competitors by storm.

As a matter of fact, Microsoft’s Cortana is so far limited to the software systems while the other virtual assistants like Siri, Google Now and Alexa have already made their way far beyond. For instance, Apple’s Siri that was initially built for all the iOS powered devices has now a much more to offer. After making its way across the macOS, Siri can now be integrated with your homekit accessories, thereby giving you a lot more user-friendly environment for controlling your home appliances. Siri, when integrated with your homekit accessories can help you control your home appliances with having to do anything. You can simply give voice commands to Siri to turn on/off the light, set the room temperature, turn on the printer and many more. Similarly, Amazon has its virtual assistant called Alexa integrated with a device called Amazon Echo that also lets you do all these tasks. As per the current stratagems, Microsoft endeavors to make Cortana ready for the IoT devices as well.

Cortana Will Help You Navigate While On Road

With the forthcoming IoT integration, Microsoft has bigger plans for its so called virtual assistant, Cortana. For all one knows, the company is also working on its Cortana Intelligence suite for making it available to the connected cars to help the drivers navigate through different routes. In addition to that, the drivers will be able to communicate with Cortana while being on the road. One can ask Cortana to perform simple tasks like change the radio station, reduce the speaker volume, turn the headlights on/off and much more.

Besides that, Microsoft is also working in partnership with Harman Kardon to make an Amazon Echo-like home speaker with Cortana integration. The new Cortana Speakers are lined up for a 2017 release and are expected to arrive pretty soon in the market.

Microsoft Calendar Help Service

Scheduling meetings and interviews has always been a very time consuming task. Since everyone has different priorities and due to work commitments, sometimes it’s not possible for everyone to attend a meeting on the proposed date. In that scenario, the meetings could be postponed and it might take hours or even days to find the next date when everyone will be available for the meeting. But with Microsoft’s forthcoming Calendar help service, it won’t be a problem anymore.

The plan is to make Cortana an unparalleled scheduling assistant that will do all the work for you. Microsoft is currently working on this project with a code name Calendar.help that will give Cortana the ability to arrange meetings by comparing the calenders of the attendents. In order to do that, Cortana will use an expert combination of AI and Machine Learning.
