An Overview of Adhoc Testing

What is Adhoc Testing-> The testing which is performed without planning and documentation is is know by the ad-hoc Testing. In this type of testing don’t follow any test case and test scenarios. This testing does not follow any structure in which tester can test. Any requirement, planning, the strategy is not followed in ad-hoc testing.

Why we performed ad-hoc testing-> Tester perform ad-hoc testing for fining any breaker issue in the application. This issue might have broken the application, hang the system. This testing is performed well if tester test from the user or end-user point of view. We don’t know the what type user use the application at that point ad-hoc testing play an important role. When the formal testing is completed then tester can switch into ad-hoc testing. This testing is very effective if tester knows system under test. We can say that also this type of testing is performed when testing time is very limited. When tester has the limited time then he can use some time with other and some time with ad-hoc testing.

If the tester has the good business knowledge of that application then it might help in the ad-hoc testing.

Type of ad-hoc testing:
Buddy testing
Pair testing
Monkey testing

Buddy testing and Pair testing is done by both developer and tester.

Money testing-> Most of us familiar with monkey testing.  Monkey testing is a random testing in which tester test the application for break the system. If the system breaks for any random testing then it's a very big achievement for the tester.

Conclusion-> Application is large or small in both cases ad-hoc testing is playing an important role. If Tester knows the requirements and the little bit of business knowledge then this testing is going a right level.
