Another update comes from Apple for its mobile operating system called iOS. The latter released an incremental update of the most powerful iOS ever built on Monday. The new version boasts a powerful portrait mode exclusively for iPhone 7 Plus. Apart from that, it includes several other improvements, updates and bugfixes including the Portrait Mode for iPhone 7 Plus camera. Before its final release, iOS 10.1 has been through weeks of beta testings and developer previews. Being an incremental update of iOS 10, the 10.1 update is available to all the iPhones and iPads that are compatible with iOS 10. The list includes iPhone 5 and later, iPad Mini 2 and later iPod Touch (6th Gen), iPad (4th Gen), iPad Air, iPad Air 2 and iPad Pro. So if you also have a compatible device, you can update to this latest version by going into settings and then it goes like this.

Portrait Mode

The Portrait Mode is by far the main facet of iOS 10.1 but it only works for the dual camera which is only available in iPhone 7 Plus. The portrait mode in iPhone 7 Plus makes use of the wide angle lens to gather perspective data for each photograph. In this way, you can take photos with blurry backgrounds while the central object remains intact. The portrait mode was first featured in the keynote event to flaunt the capabilities of iPhone 7 Plus camera. Although being in the beta stage right now, Portrait Mode embellishes the existing functionalities of the most astonishing iPhone ever built. You can switch to the portrait mode in your iPhone 7 camera just by swiping over to your right and select portrait. The Portrait Mode uses the depth effect to sharpen the subject while blurring everything else. While using the Portrait Mode, the wide angle camera of your iPhone 7 Plus is in use.  crucial The portrait mode also lets you reduce motion while using iMessage features like the animated effects. Besides that, you’ll find a new toggle named Auto-Play Message Effects inside the reduce motion tab in accessibility settings.

Other Camera Features

The Portrait Mode is the key feature introduced by iOS 10.1 but since it’s specific to iPhone 7 Plus only, it’s not much of a use to the other iPhones. To indemnify this limitation, several other camera features are given in iOS 10.1 that work well with other compatible devices as well. To be more discreet, there’s just one new feature for the other devices while there are two minor bugfixes and a much needed improvement.

  • Along with the location, it will also save the names of people in a photograph on the iCloud.

  • In some devices, the camera app showed an initial blur or flash screen which has now been fixed.

  • While seeing pictures in the photo library, there was an issue that caused pictures to quit frequently which is no longer there.

  • The photo app has been improved such that the display of wide color gamut photos is now better in grid view.

So this was all about the camera features in iOS 10.1. There are many other improvements and bugfixes in this incremental update of iOS 10. You can know more about the features here.
