WhatsApp secretly adds encryption to the iCloud backups

Last year WhatsApp secretly made security changes to improve the security of its iCloud backups. The company silently added new feature, without anyone’s knowledge. Through iCloud backup, the contacts and messages are saved on the Apple servers. With this update, WhatsApp became more safe and now icloud backup will be encrypted. Adding encryption to the iCloud backup will help in preventing data privacy breaches which is a major loophole. This could happen through Apple subpoena. They carry the encryption keys for iCloud, or by tech savvy hackers who break into your account. To avoid such situations, they are updating their security system as these situations can be extremely frustrating.
They have announced that they will be switching to end-to-end encryption now. By end-to-end means that your communication will be encrypted this means hackers will not be able to retrieve any information and the encrypted message will be decrypted only when it reaches to the receiver's phone. This means that even WhatsApp application would not listen to what you are saying. So when a user backs up his/her chat, then files are sent encrypted. Encryption has become a need of an hour now. As there are hackers and malware. WhatsApp completed the encryption process to all of its platforms and users in 2016. Encryption is not successful alone, other things also matter.

Saved messages on your phone.
If you wish that your messages stay secret and safe then simply delete it after you read them. As if someone steals your phone, he could easily access all your messages. There are messaging apps that have in built auto destruct feature, which deletes the messages after a particular time. Currently, WhatsApp doesn’t have end-to-end encryption by default.
You’re not backing up messages to the cloud
In iPhone, you can ask Whatsapp to keep a backup of messages on iCloud as Whatsapp itself doesn't store your messages on its servers. After backing up, the information can be accessed by anyone. In that case, your photos, messages, contacts and everything else will be visible.
Someone’s looking at your screen
If somebody is peeping into your screen and is able to see what you are texting, then there is no point of encryption.
The dispute between the company and the government over data and encryption will never end. As government demands the data and the company denies it. However, right now your data its quite safe.
