Researchers From Vietnam Duped Face ID Feature Of iPhone X

A team of researchers hailing from Vietnam declares that they have tricked an iPhone’s Face ID software with a mask. Researchers made a mask made out of the 3D printer, a hand-sculpted nose, and a custom skin surface designed to fool the system. The mask costs around $150.

A team at Bkav announced that they defeated the Face ID of iPhone X with their mask that clones the features of the User’s face. A company from Vietnam made the statement that they have deceived the artificially intelligent system of the Face ID software when they used a hand-made mask before the Face Id. First they unlocked the iPhone face and later on, they used a mask. In both cases, the Face Id password got cracked. On that statement, Apple refused to say anything. Apple’s face ID has rejected the requests made to register for user id. It also denied taking the mask at the beginning of Face ID. For making it possible, the mask should be moved at some specific angles aligned with the iPhone.This process completion can take up to more than 9 hours.

Vice president of cybersecurity at Bkav said that this mask was exactly created using 3D printing with makeup and 2D printing and for large skin areas, it also included some special processing on the cheeks and around the face area. Now, there are doubts about this software. Whether Face ID is a reliable security measure or not?

The team also proclaimed that making this mask is not an easy task. However, the face Id feature of iPhone would be unreliable for user authentication at some points for some people. Cracking the Face Id of iPhone is not a piece of cake for any normal person. The ordinary people who use the device regularly need not be much worried about the issue. But the people in the finance sector, higher administrations, politics, security sector and also those who are very affluent should need to be alert about the flaws in the Face ID software.
Thus, this issue clears that nothing is perfect. There can be flaws in the Apple’s AI system that is used in facial recognition.
