tvOS 10.2 update arrives

After weeks of beta testings, Apple has finally released an OTA update of tvOS 10.2 for the fourth generation Apple TV. As a matter of fact, tvOS 10.2 has been in its beta stage since January 2017 and Apple had seeded six beta versions of tvOS 10.2 to the developers before releasing the final update. Despite of being the second major update to tvOS 10, there’s not much to get excited about in this new update. However, it brings some major improvements, bugfixes and several minor changes that you’ll start to notice as the time goes by.

The key highlights of the update is the improved scrolling capabilities and expanded Mobile Device Management (MDM). Apart from that, tvOS 10.2 adds support for the Device Enrollment Program run by Apple. Last but not the least, this update adds a new and improved Apple File System (APFS). With this, Apple follows the pre-planned trail as the APFS has also been updated in the latest iOS release (iOS 10.3).

Fast And Smooth Scrolling

Perhaps, the greatest endowment of this new tvOS update is that it streamlines the user experience by improving the scrolling capabilities. You can now navigate through the long lists more quickly and swiftly than ever before. A new scrolling mode has been added that will be enabled each time you perform a couple of long swipes down the touch pad on top of the Siri TV remote. Besides, you can quickly jump to different options by swiping on the far right edge of the Siri Remote touch pad. That way, you can skip through several options at a time which further makes it easy for you to find what you’re looking for.

Other Notable Changes

  • Added support for Apple’s Device Enrollment Program

  • Extended support for Apple TV’s Mobile Device Management (MDM)

  • Added support for a new framework called VideoToolbox

  • Updated Apple File System (APFS)

How To Update?

An over-the-air update for tvOS 10.2 (build 14W265) is now available for all the fourth generation Apple TV users.
