Mirror Your iOS Device To The Apple TV Screen

What’s the point of having so many Apple devices when you’re not even reaping the real perks of the features they offer. As a matter of fact, a majority of iPhone users are still somewhat unaware of their device’s full potential. Same is in case of the Apple TV. There’s more to this high-end Streaming Device than one could possibly imagine. Screen mirroring or Screen Casting is one such feature that is quite popular but is still unexplored by many Apple TV subscribers owing to its slightly convoluted procedure. Although, Screen Mirroring is not a new concept and is offered by many other Streaming Media Players like Google Chromecast, Amazon Fire TV and Roku. But as already mentioned, Apple uses bit of a different procedure for the same and it makes use of AirPlay mechanism.

The AirPlay feature lets you stream the media stored in your iPhone, iPad or Mac directly to your Apple TV screen. It lets you stream music, it lets you stream photos, videos and much more directly from your portable Apple device. The feature is much similar to the Cast Screen functionality offered by Google Chromecast except for the fact that it only supports iOS and MacOS devices.

Initial Requirements

Before getting started, make sure you have an updated iOS device which is supported by Apple TV for AirPlay Mirroring. For instance, Apple TV supports following iOS devices.

  • iPhone 4s and the later versions.

  • iPad, iPad Mini, iPad 2 and the later versions

  • iPod Touch (4th Gen) and the later versions

And in order to cast or mirror your portable Apple device to your Apple TV screen, all you need is a supported version of that device, Apple TV box and a working internet connection. Well, that’s it! You’re good to go. Let’s get started.

Setting Up The AirPlay

Before you start streaming your device content to the Apple TV screen, the first thing you need to do is enable the AirPlay Mode in your Apple TV settings.

To enable the AirPlay Mode, open up the “Settings” tab from the main menu. From the screen that follows, select the AirPlay option. This will take you to another window and there you need to turn ‘on’ the AirPlay Mode. Once you’re done with all that, you can use your Apple TV for screen mirroring via AirPlay display.

How To Cast Your iPhone or iPad?

After enabling the AirPlay Mode, make sure that both your Apple TV and iOS device are connected to the same network. If they aren’t, make sure you do that now. The procedure is same for both iPhone and iPad.

  • Swipe up the home screen of your iOS device.

  • Tap on AirPlay at the bottom right corner of the screen.

  • It will take you to the list of all the nearby devices that have AirPlay mode enabled.

  • Select your Apple TV from the list if there are other devices as well.

  • Tap on your Apple TV name and turn on the mirroring.

Once you are done with all these steps, your iOS device screen will mirror on your TV screen. Post this, everything you do on your iPhone or iPad will be reflected on the TV screen.

So you see the screen mirroring in Apple TV is pretty much the same to that offered by the Google Chromecast. It’s just that Google Chromecast works for both android and iOS devices. But Apple TV is specific only to the iOS and Mac devices.
