How To Change Display Type On A Third Generation Roku Device

Roku gives you a wholesome streaming environment and allows you to stream high-definition videos in 720p, 1080p and 4K UHD resolutions. With a myriad of streaming devices from Roku such as Roku Premiere, Roku Premiere Plus and Roku Ultra, you can now stream in 4K UHD resolution. Roku Ultra also supports HDR display for providing you an extraordinary streaming experience as it creates a natural and more realistic imagery of what you see.

However, in case you are using an older Roku device, you can still make the most of it by streaming high-definition content. The third generation Roku Streaming Media Player gives you access to high definition videos and allows you to stream in 1080p over your home wi-fi network. The default HD resolution is 720p but if your TV supports 1080p, you can easily switch to full HD mode by changing your display settings. In this blog, we’ll tell you how you can change your display type from 720p to 1080p on Roku 3. Let’s get started!

Switching From 720p To 1080p

Before trying this, make sure your TV supports 1080p. If it doesn’t, you can still stream in 720p which is almost as good. But streaming in 1080p definitely gives you better picture and quality. To switch your display type from 720p to 1080p, follow these simple steps.

  • Press the home button on your Roku TV remote which will take you to the Home Screen.

  • Go to Settings on the left side of the screen and then move on to the options in the right by pressing the right arrow button.

  • Scroll down and select Display Type from the options.

  • Press the arrow button, scroll to 1080p and then press OK button to select it.

That’s all you need to do. Your display type has been set to 1080p and you will now experience the change in your streaming videos. You can set the display resolution back to 720p in the exact same way. Please note that all the channels on Roku may not support 1080p content. In that case, the display resolution will be set back to 720p for those channels only. Some channels may also alter the display resolution depending on the speed of your internet connection. So that was how you can change your display settings on Roku 3 and stream videos in 1080p resolution.
