Apple TV

Being an Apple TV user, you just can’t abstain from downloading apps from the App Store for all sorts of purposes. While having so many apps makes life easy for you, it can be at times very difficult to manage all these apps. It generally happens in case you have a whopping collection of apps and with new apps piling up, it gets hard for you to find an app that you’re looking for. Sometimes you have to scroll down all the way to the bottom of the home screen just to find an app. Besides, doing that with the Apple TV remote is just as hard as it gets. Of course if you know the name of the app, you can find it in no time. You can either search for it or you can just ask Siri to launch it for you. But sometimes, you just don’t remember the app’s name. This situation is best described as Home Screen Confusion and anyone can be facing it at some point of time. But don’t worry, there’s an effective remedy for these trivial problems as well on Apple TV. You can always delete the unwanted apps but that definitely isn’t the right solution. However, we can also deal with this so called, “homescreen confusion” by organizing all the apps properly into different folders. We call it the Home Screen Optimization and in this blog, we’ll tell you how to achieve it.

Well, to be honest with you, it’s something you’ve been doing for a very long time on your PCs, Smartphones and other digital appliances. Moving files into folders and all that kind of stuff. Doing that on Apple TV is slightly different but once you learn how to do it, it’s actually simpler than a cakewalk.

How To Create Folders And Move Apps

The first step toward optimizing the home screen is to properly arrange the apps into different folders so you can find them easily whenever you want. For instance, you can create a separate folder for all the streaming apps where you can place all the streaming apps you have on your Apple TV. In the same way, you can create folder for games and move all your games to that particular folder. Doing that not only alleviates your app finding woes, but also gives a startling look to your Apple TV homescreen. So let’s see how it’s done.

The procedure of creating folders on Apple TV is a little different. You actually have to select, move/drag an app and drop it over another similar app in order to create a folder. Once you drop an app over the other, it will automatically create a folder with a relevant name. But don’t worry, you can rename it anytime. Let’s say for an instance, if you drag and drop a game over another, a folder will be created with the title, “Games.” In the same way, if you do that with the streaming apps, a folder titled, “Entertainment” will be created. Once a folder has been created, you can add as many apps to that folder as you want and you won’t essentially need to drag and drop over time. Once a folder is created on the homescreen with two apps already inside it, you can simply add the other apps without dragging and dropping them over the folder. You can do that following these simple steps.

  • Select the app that you want to move to a folder using Siri remote control.

  • Tap and hold the touch surface on the remote. A popup menu will appear with several options.

  • From the options down below, select move to a specific folder.

That’s it! The app will be moved to that particular folder. You can also reposition the folder on the home screen and place it where you can find it easily. The apps stored in a folder can also be moved out. You can do that by dragging them one by one to the edge of the display. In case you move out all the apps from a specific folder, it will automatically disappear.

So that was all you need to know about Home Screen Optimization on Apple TV. Hope this blog post helps you with your home screen related tribulations.
