A brief introduction to load testing
Posted By : Sana Khan | 03-Dec-2020
When deploying the build into the production environment, it is very important to validate the functional and non-functional aspects of the application. Performance testing is one of the important types of testing under the non-functional testing group. in the case of load testing, it usually means how good the application is behaving when it is being used by a large number of users simultaneously.
Load testing can be done under a guided environment to compare the capabilities of different systems or to measure the capabilities of a single system accurately and identify the system capability.
Why load testing?
1.Load Testing helps to build strong and reliable systems.
2.It helps in identifying the bottleneck in the system well in advance before the application goes live.
3.It helps in identifying the capacity of the application.
Examples of load testing include
- When downloading a series of large files from the internet
- To run multiple applications on a computer or server simultaneously
- Assigning many jobs to a single printer in a queue
- Putting the server through a large amount of traffic
- Writing and reading the whole data to and from a hard disk continuously
Load Testing Approach:
1)Evaluate performance acceptance criteria
2)Identify critical scenarios
3)Design workload Model
4)Identify the target load levels
5)Design the tests
6)Execute Tests
7)Analyze the Results
Advantages of Load Testing
- Identify the issues related to performance and bottlenecks before production
- Improve the scalability of the system in terms of database, software, network, etc
- Minimize the risk associated with the downtime of the application/system
- Reduce the cost of failure and enhance customer satisfaction
