Facebook App For iOS Lets You Take 360 Degree Photos

In a recent update to its mainstream iOS app, Facebook has introduced a stunning new feature that lets you take 360 degree photos on your iPhone/iPad. Later, you can post them on your wall or set them as your cover photo. As a matter of fact, Facebook has long been been interested in 360 degree photos. It’s been quite some time since the world’s largest social platform allowed its users to post 360 degree photos taken from stock camera apps. You might have seen people sharing panoramic shots of different places or events on their Facebook wall that showcase a complete 360 degree view of a particular location.

Finally, Facebook has added this new feature to strengthen its reach in Virtual Reality. The feature however, is only available for the iOS mobile users as of now. But Android users will soon have access to it in coming weeks.

How To Take 360 Degree Pictures On Facebook?

If you are still using the outdated version of Facebook on your iPhone/iPad, you won’t be able to take and post this kind of images on your wall. So first of all, go to App Store and update your Facebook app.

When you launch the updated version of the app, a new 360 Degree Photo option will appear at the top of your news feed. Tap on that and it will ask for the right to access your phone’s camera. Allow it to use the camera app. When you’ve switched to the camera app, you’ll see a blue shutter button at the bottom of the screen. Tap the shutter icon and start recording a panoramic shot by moving your iPhone/iPad in all directions. Do it until you’ve taken a complete panorama. Once you’ve taken a picture, you can also choose your preferred starting point within the picture. The 360 degree view will start from that particular point and will take the viewer all the way around.

What Can You Do With These 360 Degree Pictures?

Upon taking a 360 degree picture, you can simply share it on your wall or set it as your profile’s cover. You may also tag your friends in the same way you do with other pictures. When it comes to sharing, the panoramic photos can be posted to the groups as well as your Facebook albums just like the other regular images. When you share a 360 degree picture anywhere on Facebook, anyone who views the image can pan around to see the complete 360 degree view captured while taking it. The picture can also be zoomed to see the minute details. However, the image quality very much depends on your phone’s camera.
