Apple released the first major incremental update of tvOS 11 (i.e tvOS 11.1) for the fourth generation Apple TV and Apple TV 4K few days ago. The release includes some crucial fixes and several enhancements but didn’t have much to offer in terms of features. Now, Apple is geared up for the next release i.e tvOS 11.2 which is coming to the supported Apple TV devices in the coming weeks. Lately, Apple has rolled out the first public beta of tvOS 11.2 to the developers and public beta testers. Being a major update, it brings several new features and some crucial fixes. Let’s have a look at some of these cool features and upgrades that you’ll find in the new release.

First off, it restores the Unwatched category in the Home Sharing tab that features movies, TV shows and Home Videos. It also adds some exclusive new features for Apple TV 4K users. For instance, it allows you to auto-switch to the native frame rate and dynamic range of the videos. Apart from that, you can now switch display output to SDR (Standard Dynamic Range) while running in HDR mode for all the GPU-bound apps.

Another change arrives in the Audio/Video section of the Settings app where users can now set the matching frame rate and dynamic range behavior independently. This feature enables the viewers to watch videos in their original frame rate and dynamic range instead of force streaming HDR at 60 FPS.

This feature however, is disabled by default. So you’ll have to turn it on manually. Once you have enabled this feature on your Apple TV streaming device, it automatically switches the video display settings to match the original frame rate of the content.

For instance, if the content is originally having a frame rate of 30 fps and standard dynamic range, your device will automatically switch to 30 fps SDR mode instead of forcing 60 fps HDR. When a session is over, it will automatically switch back to its original system settings.

All these features and enhancements are offered to boost the user experience of the Apple TV 4K users and are expected to revamp the gaming experience as well on the supported fourth generation and 4K streaming devices.
