After the major update of Android 8.0 which has most of the improvement, Google has rolled out another update called Android 8.1 Oreo. Though there aren't major features and changes some are important ones. It brings advanced Pixel launches, machine learning, and Artificial Intelligence. The update is out for Pixel 2 and 3XL, Pixel C tablet, Pixel 1 and 1XL, last two devices of Nexus which are 6P and 5X. The update will surely impress its users. Following Features are:
1. Visual Core
The Android 8.0 came with the visual core which is the custom designed consumer processor. The Visual Core processor has the dedicated image processing chip of its own. This processor is currently available in Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL and will later be available on other devices. They have eight image processing unit and 512 arithmetic logic units. When combined with machine learning, the speed of processor automatically increases. The Visual core does not automatically get enabled on your phone. Here are the following steps to enable them.
- Click on the system button from the settings menu
- Click on phone and then build number
- The developer's options will get enabled after tapping 7 times.
- Select developers option and then debugging
- At last click on the Camera HAL HDR+
2. Neural Networks API
All the devices with the Android 8.1 Oreo update will now have the access to Google’s Neural Networks API (NNAPI) for running intensive operations for machine learning. This is probably the major feature in Android 8.1 Oreo. The feature will be available on all the phones, whether old or new with the Android 8.1. But the first ones to get this feature are Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL phones. Because of the addition of NNAPI on phones, it is now possible to run machine learning on the smartphones.
OUR VERDICT
Android 8.1 is the nice update. Google has made all the changes to make the phones fast and easy to use. Android users will find some great changes which will make them really happy. Android 8.1 is currently available on selected devices but will soon be available on more smartphones.
