Posted By : Harsh Soni | 30-Apr-2018
WordPress is kept developing its core over the years and its current visual editor hasn't had many changes. Wordpress has now decided to add a new publishing experience for editors. WordPress competitors such as Medium or Ghost already provide a unique experience to their users. Its been in development for the past 10+ months and fixed to release with Wordpress 5.0 update.
It uses blocks to create its content and has lots of functionalities to crated rich web content easier than ever before. It is developed for everyone regardless of any technical knowledge. Gutenberg is named after "Johannes Gutenberg", who invented a printing press 500 years ago and it is currently in its beta phase, it will available officially merged with WordPress 5.0.
You can install the latest version of Gutenberg from the WordPress plugin directory Or if you want to use it before installing it on your site you can visit this link to test "Gutenberg".
You can now easily add any post or page from the "+" icon on top left. There are multiple tabs to select Block, Embed type of elements for the editor. The post excerpt is shifted to side meta box. The layout now looks fancy and more user-friendly. Once merged with WordPress it will available as default editor. It also supports custom post types and pages.
Gutenberg is WordPress project and Matt Mullenweg is completely behind its development. It is developed and written using REACT Javascript but Matt has decided to rewrite it using the different library when Facebook decided to relicense the REACT project under the MIT license.
It is a big topic of debate nowadays in WordPress community to include Gutenberg as an optional editor instead default one. Gutenberg’s UI is mainly focused on content layout, not content creation. There are lots of vote down supporters to it, but Guttenberg is ready to release with WordPress 5.0.
