IoT and 5G

The whole world is moving towards mobility and people are connecting to one another at a lightning fast speed. In a relatively short span of time, internet has completely taken over our day to day lives. Over the years, it has become more of a basic need for the people belonging to every class of the society. Talking of Internet, we have moved way ahead from where we started and new milestones have been achieved. Moving from the traditional copper cables to the optical fibers and then finally to the wireless networks, there’s no available parameter to define the splendor.

Introducing the high speed 4G network was no doubt a major breakthrough and now the fifth generation of mobile networks is all set to turn the tables once again. Although there’s still a long way to go, things are starting to heat up pretty quickly. According to the Next Generation Mobile Networks Alliance, the 5G technology is slated to roll out by the early 2020.

Why Do We Need 5G?

There are no doubt huge expectations from 5G and since the latter is going to arrive in 2020, the data requirements are also tend to rise by the time we enter 2020. A rough estimation is that by 2020, the daily average internet usage per person is expected to rise over 2GB. Intel predicts that the daily internet usage will be more than 1GB by the end of 2017 itself so we can see how quickly things are changing and how people are getting addicted to the internet. Intel also predicts that there’s going to be a tremendous uplift in the daily video traffic by the year 2020 and the latter is expected to reach a whopping mark of 1PB, which is equivalent to 1000TB. Not to forget, the amount of data generated by automobiles vehicles and mobile devices is also increasing expeditiously. This data will be increased by 4 times by the end of 2019. So you can imagine how much load is likely to be imposed of the existing 4G network.

Internet of Things

For those who don’t know, Internet of Things or simply IoT is a network of physical devices that are interconnected through wireless internet connectivity. Any object can be tuned into an IoT device by embedding various electronic equipments such as sensors, actuators and network components. An apt example of IoT can be seen in the automobile services. Leading cab services like Uber continuously track the location of their vehicles and there are hundreds of cabs moving in the same city, exchanging data at blistering speeds.

The emergence of 5G technology is also going to revitalize the Internet of Things which has already started to dominate the worldwide market. IoT is no doubt a groundbreaking technology which has already taken the whole world by storm. But we are yet to unfold many revolutionary aspects of IoT that are going to reshape the future.
