Amazon has sent its first drone delivery in UK

For a long time, we all have been anticipating the use of drones by Amazon and other e-commerce giants to get products delivered in a quick time and now this has already been realized a few days ago, specifically on 7th of December, 2016. Amazon has delivered its first private order being an “Amazon Fire TV Media Player” along with a bag of PopCorn with it. At present, only two customers are included in this program but Amazon is expecting to expand it to dozens of new customers who are located in the close vicinity of its British facility in the coming months. IoT had proved itself as a trendsetter in the tech field over the last decade.

Right Now, in the trial phase, the deliveries have been kept limited, only in the daytime and weather conditions are also being considered before the launch of a delivery towards its destination. During its first drone delivery, the Amazon Drone took only 13 minutes to deliver its first consignment from the time the purchaser clicked on “Order Now” button on his device. When it will come into public serving, at that time too, Amazon would be delivering products within 30 minutes of it being ordered with no extra transportation cost.

Huge Demand in Tech World for Drone Deliveries

Google Delivered Burritos via a Drone at Virginia Tech

There is a huge demand in the tech world in context of using Drones for receiving faster deliveries. Google had been working on its drone program for last 2.5 years i.e. from 2014 at a private land in California. In the starting of this year, Google also delivered Chipotle Burritos at Virginia Tech during its testing phase. A few lucky students from Virginia Tech and employees from the adjacent building were allowed to order for Burritos and were allowed to watch their food been flown over an open area for a few hundred meters before getting delivered to them.

Domino's delivered Pizza in New Zealand via a Drone in its Testing Phase

In the mid of this year, Domino's also delivered Pizzas via drones in its testing phase and soon be making deliveries to general public. According to a General Manager (Scott Bush) from Domino’s Pizza Enterprises -

“It doesn't add up to deliver a two kilogram package in a two-ton vehicle. In Auckland, we have such massive traffic congestion it just makes sense to take to the airways.”

A customer who has requested for a pizza delivery via drone will be sent a notification once the food package takes off from the point of origin towards its destination. Customer has to come outside of his/her house and need to wait until the drone lowers the food packet via a tether. Once the package gets released, the drone pulls the tether up and flies back to the Domino’s centre.

While Amazon has taken official permission from the UK. Government to test its drone delivery programme but sadly in U.S., it's still illegal to fly a drone for commercial purposes especially when the flight is an autonomous one and is outside a human’s line of sight. U.S. customers need to wait for some more time before it becomes possible for Amazon to send deliveries using a drone to its customers. IoT Development had been huge in the past couple of years bringing advancements like these in the tech field.
