Absolute Interoperability With WebRTC

Technology world has been trying hard to standardize WebRTC. They were the years of downloading plug-ins for IM clients/messaging apps, and nobody had any idea of the possibility of real-time communication via web browser. It was when Google first announced this open-source project.

WebRTC Application Development

WebRTC has seen and dealt with a lot of hurdles. Microsoft and Apple didn’t support the project. Some of the problems have been resolved and some issues will be resolved soon, but absolute interoperability across operating systems, browsers and endpoints remains a goal to achieve.

The absence of interoperability is not new in the field of communication. Not all networks are absolutely interoperable. Very little standards have ever escaped the exhausting procedures of communication and debates before being adopted widely. This is the main reason why session border controllers are so famous since they offer compatibility between different systems. In order to achieve the required interoperability, the legacy endpoint must be altered to be compatible with WebRTC.

WebRTC tries to make it easy for people to communicate in real-time, irrespective of device they are using or what’s their location; It has to be compatible with various systems before absolute interoperability is gained. Some of the applications written for WebRTC works in chrome but not in Firefox despite the fact that both browsers offer wide support for the protocol.

It isn’t different for the situation with HTML in browsers. Despite the fact that the main browser offer support for HTML5, some websites won’t display accurately depending on the level of browser support. It isn’t unusual to notice WebRTC going through compatibility problems. Although it’s absolutely true that the issues needs to be resolved before WebRTC spreads its availability for users.

Conclusion

WebRTC offers excellent chance for extending services, products, and websites by letting developers to effortlessly add real-time communication features, but to realize the advantage the more challenging area of interoperability with legacy mechanism should be addressed. SBCs have already offered support for WebRTC. In the tech world, techies have found interoperability to be constant challenge, which eventually end some excellent new potential WebRTC based services. But like any problem, there’s a solution too. Interoperability isn’t a new issue in telecom field, hence potential solutions are well understood.
