Beta Testing Android

After initial development of your android app, you are ready to get your app out door for additional testing. This can be done using number of ways, but if your final goal to publish your app in Play Store then you should use Play Store for beta testing.

Create your Google Play Account

If you don’t have a Google Developer Account , you need to sign up to Developer Console to publish to Google Play.

Create Signed APK

The next step is to create the signed APK for from your development environment. To identify the author of an app, android requires that all applications should be digitally signed with a certificate.

Upload the APK

After creating signed APK, you need to login to your developer console to upload it to the store by clicking “Add new application”.

A popup window will appear, do enter a title for you application and then click “Upload APK”.

Since our goal is to get application on Play Store for beta testing, select the BETA TESTING tab, and then click the “Upload your first APK to Beta”.

Now Click “Browse files” and browse your signed APK file and then click “Save”..

Manage your Testers

Creating a community in Google+ is a easy step. Community can be private or public it doesn’t matter. Add you testers to your community. After this you need community public url that will something look like below url

https://plus.google.com/communities/102979675820139489176.

In Play Store you will see an option “Manage list of testers”, click it and then add your community.

Publish the Application

At the top, you will see an option to publish your application. Click this option to publish your app.

It may take few hours to show your app in Play Store. Once it done, a url will appear below add your community option. That will look something like this

https://play.google.com/apps/testing/com.demo.app

Test  the Application

Navigate to your testing URL, https://play.google.com/apps/testing/[ APP NAME HERE]  a page will open. Here there are links to become a tester and to download the application from Google Play Store. The same page will open for beta testers.

Note : To see “Become A tester” and download links, you need to login to Google.

Click  “Become a Tester”, you will become a tester.

Just wait for few hours, you will see your app on Play Store.
